Sankarankoil, it is the town, which is located in the Tirunelveli  Kattabomman district. It is the capital of Sankarankoil taluk.There are 30 wards with one chairman and 30 Counselors. Srivillipudur, Rajapalayam and Kovilpatti are the major towns  near by Sankarankoil. The total area of the town is 11.4 sq. km. The population of  the town is 48,739 as per 1991 census. In the total census, 24477 are males and 24262 are females. Handlooms and Agricultures are the major industries in this taluk. In agricultures, paddy, chillies, corn, sugarcane, and groundnut are important crops.
